Antique and High-Value Furniture Disassembly Service

Antique and High-Value Furniture Disassembly Services

Antiques don't tolerate moving the way modern furniture does. Glue joints are 100 years old. Veneers lift if you breathe wrong. Wedged dovetails were never meant to be opened. We approach antiques as conservators do: assess first, photograph everything, disassemble only what must be disassembled, and use period-appropriate techniques wherever possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do you decide whether to disassemble an antique or move it whole?

We assess the piece first - joint type, finish condition, overall stability, and the spaces it needs to pass through. If it can move whole safely, we do it that way.

  • Do you use any adhesives or fillers during reassembly?

No. We use only the original hardware and don't apply any adhesives unless the client specifically requests a repair.

  • Can you handle pieces with fragile veneer?

Yes. Veneer is one of the most common risks in antique moving. We use edge padding and avoid any pressure or impact on veneered surfaces.

  • Are you insured for high-value antiques?

Yes. We ask clients to share appraised values before the job so appropriate coverage is confirmed.

  • Do you work with estate sale companies and antique dealers?

Yes. We partner with several DMV estate companies and are comfortable in occupied and unoccupied estate properties.

  • Can you move period pieces that have never been disassembled?

Yes. Many antiques were built in place and haven't been apart since the 19th century. We have experience with original mortise-and-tenon, dovetail, and square-nail construction.
